BIOGRAPHY
Fariba Maria Dian AFCA

For over a decade, Iranian-Canadian artist Fariba Dian has worked with fabric to create portraits. Born in Iran, Fariba was introduced to sewing at the tender age of five. This is where her love for fabric grew. Naturally gifted with artistic talent and a keen sense for colors, Fariba worked in fashion design while exploring painting, sculpting and various other artistic mediums. A Master in architecture gave her the ability to utilize the composition of light and structure analyses in her art. Her love of art flourished in 1997, Dian was commissioned to create still life paintings. She took this as a challenge.
Instead of using paint she utilized pieces of fabric collected over the years. Dian honed her skills to create fabric collages to represent the beauty of women and express her feelings and personal philosophy. The inner strength and freedom lay within us.
Growing up as a liberal open-minded individual living in a culture that restricted individual expression, Fariba uses her art to empower and enlighten others. Her work is displayed in various galleries around the world: Italy, China, France, Iran, and Canada.
Dian resides in Vancouver where she continues her architecture and interior design practice while creating portraits that capture the beauty of her subjects in their daily lives.
Fariba was accepted as an associate in the Federation of Canadian Artist in March 2019.
